Linguistic and Musical Background of LMOW
The project is developed following the basis of Structural Linguistics. It started with Ferdinand de Saussure's ideas of the lexical structures and the approaches of Noam Chomsky in interdisciplinarity. The basic concepts of this research are developed from the ideas of one of the greatest minds in Linguistics of the XX century, the Romanian Professor Eugenio Coseriu and his notions of Lexematics and Lexical Fields. The structural organization of the lexical fields are compared to the organization of musical notes in chords. In terms of music, the description related to elementary music theory, made by the Bulgarian Professor of Music, Parashkev Hadjiev, was used. Influence in this research has the compositions of contemporary composers and piano players such as Ludovico Einaudi (Italy), Yiruma (South Korea) and Sophiane Pamart (France).
The choice of instrument for the research is a keyboard/synthesizer. The notation choice is contemporary Western musical staff notation. Since the focus of the study is the functional language, a notation and an instrument that could represent the “functional music speech” are chosen, i.e. nowadays, they are used by Orquestra directors and music producers worldwide. The synthesizer permits switching between the sounds of different instruments, and it has colour differentiation on black and white keys, which facilitates the use of this model by users with specific sound sensibility or who don’t possess any knowledge of music.
